[10:18:34] <Solskogen> gromit: oh, but how are the maintainers suppose to know that their package is out of date then?
[10:19:22] <gromit> Solskogen: either via the ood flag on the website or with whatever they have running for their setup
[10:19:44] <gromit> but bumpbuddy will definitely be the easy way forward
[10:19:56] <gromit> Some people also just look at the output from pkgctl version check locally
[10:20:55] <Solskogen> yeah, but all of that requires some kind of manual intervension
[10:21:44] <Antiz> Solskogen: That's what bumpbuddy aims to fix, although it is opt-in by design
[10:22:49] <Antiz> As gromit said, some people already have their own mechanism/workflow to check for new releases. We don't want to automatically create extra noise for people.
[10:22:53] <Solskogen> which was the reason why I initial thought was that it was a bug that the maintainer wasn't assigned automagicly
[10:23:04] <Solskogen> I see.
[10:23:05] <Antiz> So the solution is there, now it's up to people to opt-in.
[10:23:41] <gromit> Solskogen: generally you have to understand that you will not get people to update stuff by just sending a lot of noise to them :D
[10:23:49] <gromit> That's why we made it opt-in
[10:24:06] <Antiz> Yes, most of the time, the issue is not people not being aware of new releases
[10:24:17] <Antiz> It's people not having enough time to deal with those.
[10:25:00] <Antiz> Which sending yet another set of emails to people will not fix :P
[10:25:43] <Antiz> Although, this might change at some point in the future, as we aim for bumpbuddy to eventually open merge request rather than issue
[10:26:27] <Antiz> Which maintainers gets auto-assigned to.
[10:26:59] <Antiz> But it is also depending on buildbtw at that point (regarding automated CI build / gitflow)
[10:27:29] <Antiz> So I don't think this is something we are planning on for the near future, but still something we have in mind
[10:28:15] <Solskogen> Ok, I understand. Thanks for pointing that out :-)
[10:32:01] <Solskogen> on a other totally different area: is it so that if a package ever had a epoch= - the package will need that for the rest of it's life?
[10:32:44] <Antiz> Solskogen: Yup, epoch are like diamonds
[10:33:01] <Antiz> They are forever 😃 ♦️
[10:33:43] <Solskogen> Hah, noted
[10:34:36] <Antiz> Once it is introduced, it cannot be removed, otherwise the version comparaison mechanism would be borked
[10:35:19] <Antiz> This is why we try to introduce them only as "last resort"
[10:35:33] <Antiz> But sometimes we have no other choice, unfortunately
[10:36:17] <Solskogen> https://github.com
[10:36:18] <phrik> Title: GitHub - solskogen/archlinux-aarch64-builder (at github.com)
[10:36:39] <Solskogen> Here's the script I use for keeping things up to date on aarch64 btw
[10:38:42] <Solskogen> 99.9% of it is code coming from Amazon Q (amazons AI)
[10:38:51] <Solskogen> So the code might look strange, but it works :-)
[10:40:08] <Solskogen> The upload mechanism is the only thing that is tied to our setup - other than that, it should work on other architechtures as well.
[10:43:44] <Solskogen> as ffmpeg was updated I'm running a build - and I now hope that it builds stuff in the correct order (it should)
