[18:27:19] <solskogen|M> gromit: rebuild all packages older than two years?! That's quite a lot.
[18:29:34] <solskogen|M> how many of them were broken?!
[18:31:05] <gromit> solskogen|M: all remaining ones xD https://archlinux.org
[18:31:06] <phrik> Title: Arch Linux - Developer Login (at archlinux.org)
[18:31:19] <gromit> Ah the report is not public it seems :/
[18:31:37] <solskogen|M> I'm not allowed to see that...
[18:35:32] <solskogen|M> You'd probably want to check if the sources were fetchable as well...
[18:36:36] <solskogen|M> (first I tried failed: bmusb)
[18:38:36] -!- drathir_tor has joined #archlinux-ports
[18:58:32] <Antiz> FWIW, I would advocate for periodic "world" rebuilds :D
[18:59:04] <solskogen|M> I very much agree.
[18:59:13] <Antiz> Other distributions (e.g. Fedora) does that before each new releases (of course Arch being a rolling release is not subject to this, but stil)
[18:59:37] <Antiz> We have a bunch of old packages that do not build anymore and we don't even know.
[18:59:49] <Antiz> Although, good news is, I think this is something that buildBTW will allow :)
[18:59:57] <solskogen|M> I'm not sure how rebuilderd works, but I guess there are artifacts from that?
[19:00:46] <Antiz> rebuilderd doesn't solve this as it rebuilds packages in the context of reproducible builds
[19:01:03] <Antiz> meaning that packages are rebuilt with the same version of dependencies they were originally built with.
[19:01:24] <solskogen|M> Oh, okay.
[19:01:28] <Antiz> Reproducible builds expects the same (or at least similar enough) build environment
[19:01:55] <Antiz> While the issue is actually to check if a package builds with newer version of dependencies :P
[19:02:02] <solskogen|M> okay, I'm uploading a lot of packages now due to this rebuild ( and gnome)
[19:03:13] <solskogen|M> If I had my say, I'd advocate for major rebuilds when there's a new major gcc version released.
[19:04:01] <solskogen|M> Or once every two years. I think that's a good starting point.
[19:04:22] <Antiz> Yeah, I don't know if it should be periodic (as in every x months or year) or based on such stuff like major release of e.g. gcc, but regular world rebuilds would be a good thing IMO
[19:04:37] <Antiz> solskogen|M: You know more than we do actually
[19:05:01] <Antiz> I assume you hit a fair amount of packages that did not build on your side, but also on x86_64
[19:05:09] <Antiz> (Without us knowing :P)
[19:05:09] <solskogen|M> That's just because I did a major rebuild last year :-)
[19:05:22] <Antiz> Haha, we should take examples on you then :P
[19:06:05] <solskogen|M> If something fails on aarch64 I always try to build it on x86_64 as well. Just to ensure if the package is really broken or not.
[19:06:51] <solskogen|M> it was a major pain for packages in core. let me tell you that.
[19:09:16] <solskogen|M> in OpenBSD all the packages are rebuilt and published quite often, but they don't bump pkgrel unless it's really necessary.
[19:09:36] <solskogen|M> I don't know how they figure out if it's needed to bump it or not.

[20:44:16] <maxjrh> Hello. I put Arch Linux on my ThinkPad x13s, and I have a few questions:
[20:44:20] <maxjrh> 1) libcamera package links against libpisp, but doesn't depend on it. Is this a bug?
[20:44:30] <maxjrh> 2) I can use the camera, but only once. When I try to access the camera a second time, I get an error in dmesg: https://gist.github.com
[20:44:32] <phrik> Title: journalctl-dmesg · GitHub (at gist.github.com)
[20:44:37] <maxjrh> Am I missing a module?
[20:44:47] <maxjrh> 3) The PKGBUILD for chromium has aarch64-specific code. Does that mean that upstream Arch is receptive for more such code? I'd like to recommend this patch: https://gist.github.com

[20:45:02] <maxjrh> My Arch Linux gitlab account is not yet whitelisted, so I can't make a pull request myself.

[21:50:46] <solskogen|M> and it's my fault.
[21:54:02] <solskogen|M> I've fixed that now. Regarding the one-time use, I have no idea.
