[14:57:02] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[14:57:02] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[14:57:03] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> classic approach then.. add more resources to the problem :-)
[14:57:48] <abaumann> deep43thought: my network had an outage (which affected mails and my mirror), the build machines should just have continued (TM), but maybe something was entangled in the network and needed some service to be around..
[14:58:12] <abaumann> (and you got promoted in the previous message with 'deep42thought+1')

[15:26:10] -!- ConSiGno has joined #archlinux32
[15:27:05] <ConSiGno> Sigh, running into another silly issue. I'm getting Arch32 to boot from CD, installed everything + GRUB, got GRUB working, all the way to "loading initial ramdisk" where things kinda freeze up.
[15:27:27] <ConSiGno> Not sure what I'm doing, or if this is a BIOS issue, I haven't had much time to look into it
[15:28:37] <ConSiGno> I've had to change storage devices several times through this so it could be anything at this point :|
[15:29:37] <ConSiGno> but I know the HDD is good, and that booting from CD works, and the HDD formats correctly and files are copied correctly. just booting on its own is where things go south
[15:34:33] <ConSiGno> When I figure this stuff out I should probably write it down so folks using the old hardware can get an idea of what to expect. Maybe Grub isn't the way to go, who knows
[15:36:48] <ConSiGno> ... or perhaps I need to modify grub to load some extra modules so it doesn't get stuck

[18:38:10] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[18:38:10] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[18:38:11] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> that's what happens if fixing a bug is faster than checking out the git repo of the linux kernel.
[18:38:39] <abaumann> ConSiGno: you could try syslinux
[18:38:59] <abaumann> uncompressing the XZ ramdisk uses a) memory and b) cpu, so maybe another ramdisk format might work.
[18:39:45] <abaumann> another idea is to use an linux-lts510 or linux-lts515 kernel from the AUR.. I experienced similar issues on at least two machines and I don't have the slighest clue, what makes them stuck..
[18:40:02] <abaumann> https://bbs.archlinux32.org
[18:40:04] <phrik> Title: HP Proliant DL140 G1 / Artwork, Screenshots & Setups / Arch Linux 32 Forum (at bbs.archlinux32.org)
[18:40:52] <abaumann> this machines exposes exactly this behaviour. I fear, something broke in more modern kernels.. Using a serial and/or kdbg would be an idea.. but I didn't have time for this..
[18:41:59] <ConSiGno> Ahh, I will look at that
[18:42:35] <ConSiGno> I did look at syslinux at one point
[18:42:47] <abaumann> I remember having tried different kernels (with the same effect) and different ramdisk compression methods (also with the same effect)
[18:43:11] <abaumann> syslinux is technically still in use as isolinux
[18:45:00] <abaumann> deep42thought: libidn is somewhat stuck (I see versions from Juli 2022). If I rebuild it manually, it just works (TM)..
[18:52:02] -!- abaumann has quit [Quit: leaving]
[19:45:43] <girls> abaumann, no it's rathole that's stuck on rechenknecht - probably somewhere in check()
[19:46:02] <girls> it's spitting out the same line again and again: "May 01 21:45:56.117 ERROR rathole::server: Failed to do transport handshake: error:0A000415:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert certificate expired:ssl/record/rec_layer_s3.c:1605:SSL alert number 45: error:0A000415:SSL routines:ssl3_read_bytes:sslv3 alert certificate expired:ssl/record/rec_layer_s3.c:1605:SSL alert number 45"
[20:47:58] <ConSiGno> haha I figured it out! it's not grub that's messing up, it's doing fine. it's the initial ramdisk fighting the decompressor
[20:48:14] <ConSiGno> oops, that's my bad
[20:50:11] <ConSiGno> also kaslr might be a problem
