[08:06:12] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[08:06:12] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[08:06:13] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> it's hot in Zurich. one power supply after the other dies.
[08:07:05] <abaumann> bill-auger: ArchlinuxARM seems to have not that regular updates anymore as before the git move upstream, but it has updates. So it is active.
[08:07:36] <abaumann> Arch32 OTOH has huge problems not only with a broken Python but also with a broken build system at the moment.
[08:08:15] <abaumann> manual builds were virtually impossible for me to do and now automatic builds are constantly failing
[08:08:26] <abaumann> also a mysql index corruption is not really helping here either :-)
[08:09:27] -!- abaumann has quit [Client Quit]
[08:13:10] -!- finsternis has quit [Read error: Connection reset by peer]
[08:20:56] <bill-auger> yes, we know now that archarm has been active all along; but the only evidence was VCS commits on github - but the repos were frozen for nearly a month; and no one knew why, until the day the problem was fixed and packages started flowing again
[08:25:20] <bill-auger> the only real problem is that the maintainers do not communicate with the community - instead, users were left in panic, and discussing the possibility of forking the project to keep it going

[08:31:20] <buildmaster> Hi abaumann!
[08:31:20] <buildmaster> !rq abaumann
[08:31:21] <phrik> buildmaster: <abaumann> So I prefer cheap bootstrapping methods over the correct ones :-)
[08:31:43] <abaumann> bill-auger: projects seem to have 100 times more users than developers. :-)
[08:31:56] <abaumann> and they constantly panic about everything in my experience. :-)
[08:33:02] <abaumann> All Archlinux forks are constantly hanging by a thread (or are on life support)
[08:33:30] <abaumann> one reason is the lack of automatization upstream, they simply do to many things which are not easy reproducable in an automatic build system
[08:34:00] <abaumann> one possibility is: because automatizing them would be more expensive than doing them manually
[08:34:54] <abaumann> the arch32 buildmaster is optimized to one extreme, the ArchArm plugbuild follows more a semi-automatic approach
[08:35:34] <abaumann> pkgctl now is a good step forward because it makes the manual process a little bit more tool supported than before, that's my personal feeling
[08:38:02] <abaumann> ArchlinuxARM has a special problem: their community is much bigger and they simply have to many entries in the forums. I imagine they are not able to handle them (in the end shipping product is about building the packages and not writing in a forum).
[08:38:30] <abaumann> but yes. I would have made an aanouncment similar to "we expect some package build issues while adapting to the new git repos upstream"
[08:51:25] -!- abaumann has quit [Quit: leaving]
[08:55:29] <bill-auger> right, even one reply to the forum or a news annoucement would have avoided panic - at least then users could have spread the word - all i got on IRC was "we dont know" ,"no one knows", "maybe we need to fork"
