[07:33:00] <KitsuWhooa> there hasn't been a kernel build for the olpc for a while now
[07:33:19] <KitsuWhooa> I don't know why it needs a special kernel, but I suspect it won't work well
[08:18:47] <yang3> So, the only suitable kernel is from that 2021 image?
[08:21:10] <KitsuWhooa> https://archlinux32.org
[08:21:12] <phrik> Title: Arch Linux 32 - linux-olpc-xo1 6.1.12.arch1-1.0 (pentium4) (at archlinux32.org)
[08:21:18] <KitsuWhooa> I don't think it's been tested, but ht's probably that one
[08:21:25] <KitsuWhooa> although I linked the wrong arch
[08:21:27] <yang3> OK
[08:21:42] <KitsuWhooa> https://archlinux32.org
[08:21:43] <phrik> Title: Arch Linux 32 - Package Search (at archlinux32.org)
[08:21:53] <KitsuWhooa> they are all pentium4...
[08:21:58] <yang3> OK
[08:22:43] <yang3> I will try to build the image, thanks
[08:22:48] <KitsuWhooa> I don't think any of those is going to run on an AMD Geode
[08:22:54] <KitsuWhooa> yeah I think that might be your only choice
[08:23:02] <KitsuWhooa> also you can't get a gui up on arch i486
[08:23:06] <KitsuWhooa> if that's what you're looking for
[08:23:49] <yang3> Yes, I don't really need the GUI, only to remotely ssh log into it would be sufficient
[08:36:15] <yang3> I read on the forum that Wi-Fi works with open network or VEP encryption, so maybe I will try that first.
[08:36:39] <yang3> I tested with WPA2, but hw is likely too old
[08:39:17] <KitsuWhooa> I'm not sure. I thought it'd be done in software but maybe the chip can't do it
[08:39:43] <KitsuWhooa> The cardbus card I use on my pentium 3 laptop connects to modern networks just fine but maybe it's just luck
[08:39:59] <KitsuWhooa> don't have any experience with the marvell libertas platform
[08:40:43] <KitsuWhooa> ...other than that one PCI card with the cheapest libertas chip that does everything in software and thus won't work on linux at all
[08:40:46] <KitsuWhooa> but that's another story :p
[09:04:57] <yang3> OK, yeah this OLPC chip is likely some exotic hardware
[09:34:57] <KitsuWhooa> lspci/lsusb?
[09:35:10] <KitsuWhooa> does it show up as a wifi device in the first place? If not, you need to check which driver is responsible for it

[11:21:20] <yang3> Yes there are 4 visible interfaces, I am not near computer now, I will try later
[11:22:15] <yang3> Iw also scans wifi networks, and "wifi-menu" will list them.

[16:37:36] <yang3> KitsuWhooa Currently I am "stuck" here, I modprobed 'usb8xxx' module, which was ok, then I did "wifi-menu wlp0s15f5u1" and I was able to select a SSID network which has no encryption OPEN network. then this screenshot appears

[16:38:23] <yang3> lspci produces output, lsusb doesnt produce anything

[16:53:29] <KitsuWhooa> are you using the wrong interface?
[16:58:56] <yang3> https://wireless.docs.kernel.org
[16:58:56] <phrik> Title: libertas_tf — Linux Wireless documentation (at wireless.docs.kernel.org)
[16:58:59] <yang3> I think not
[16:59:49] <yang3> driver is "usb8xxx"
[17:02:17] <KitsuWhooa> I suggest you read up on linux networking
[17:04:08] <yang3> hm, do I need to add this interface somewhere, afterwards? if you look at the first few lines it says "systemd reload" https://imgur.com
[17:05:10] <KitsuWhooa> I don't know, sorry. I haven't used netctl in a long long time
[17:05:29] <KitsuWhooa> it has the right interface in the name though
[17:06:02] <KitsuWhooa> when you tried to ping, it was sending the packet through msh0
[17:06:22] <KitsuWhooa> and obviously wlp0s.* is down
[17:06:30] <yang3> yeds, that was before I managfed to enable it...
[17:08:49] <yang3> i do have an entry inside (which I made, for very basic network) /etc/systemd/network/20-wired.network ....
