[01:15:40] <alad> inb4 todo: "replace all sourceforge links" with 4000 packages
[01:15:46] <alad> ;_;
[02:12:13] <eschwartz> alad: seems reasonable to me, sourceforge is blot
[02:15:52] <eschwartz> literally, their everything is so blotted it takes nearly as long to load their page as it does to load some fancy javascript app that does a billion things.
[03:01:07] <fsckd> bloat for the bloat god!
[04:01:48] <tyzoid> lol

[06:34:05] -!- nullmark has joined #archlinux-ports
[06:41:49] <deep42thought> Hmm, I never tried to open or even read the downloaded sources with wrong checksums.
[06:51:08] <eschwartz> :p
[06:52:06] <eschwartz> OTOH your accuracy is still higher than most
[06:52:15] <deep42thought> :-)
[06:52:22] <deep42thought> I have pre-written templates
[06:57:25] <deep42thought> I have a proposal I'd like to get some input on: I think, the "stabilization" process of packages (e.g. moving from staging to testing and from testing to core/extra/community) should have some timeout - e.g. if a package has not been moved for x days (x=10?) due to blocking dependencies, it should me moved anyway.
[06:57:33] <deep42thought> What do you guys think?
[06:58:55] <eschwartz> not really
[06:59:24] <eschwartz> some packages are deliberately held for longer, and others are already moved when the maintainer feels confident in them.
[07:00:03] <deep42thought> no, I'm talking about archlinux32
[07:00:19] <eschwartz> oh, duh
[07:00:23] * eschwartz kicks himself
[07:00:24] <deep42thought> all packages there have been in "stable" upstream
[07:00:49] <eschwartz> what kind of blocking dependencies
[07:01:16] <eschwartz> reverse-dependencies that is (I assume)
[07:02:05] <eschwartz> I suppose it would really depend on a judgment call, are the reverse-depends important enough to be worth unbreaking.
[07:03:01] <eschwartz> (most things probably would be, but I imagine this is mostly a matter of bootstrapping everything still?)
[07:04:14] <deep42thought> bootstrapping is not really the issue
[07:04:33] <deep42thought> the problem is that we have currently 13 broken packages of which I see no hope for 8
[07:04:44] <deep42thought> and all dependencies of those are held back
[07:05:34] <deep42thought> the "held back" packages are pretty basic ones. I think I excluded "base" explicitely, but you get the idea
[07:09:22] <eschwartz> e.g. ?
[07:11:21] <deep42thought> xz
[07:11:23] <deep42thought> zlib
[07:11:28] <deep42thought> s-nail
[07:12:14] <deep42thought> lib*
[07:12:32] <deep42thought> perl
[07:12:36] <deep42thought> stuff like that
[07:13:11] <deep42thought> hmm, s-nail is in base - maybe I didn't exclude base ...
[07:14:51] <eschwartz> well, what are the blockers?
[07:17:53] <deep42thought> all packages on the build list: apache-libcloud appstream-generator dcd dfmt diffoscope dmd dscanner dtools dub firefox gir-to-d gnome-documents kodi ldc libreoffice-fresh libreoffice-still logstash mustache-d python-autobahn python-docs python-pint python-sympy sage-notebook sagemath sagemath-doc tuxpaint-stamps twisted
[07:18:15] <deep42thought> and dmd is the one, which blocks like 8 other packages on the build list
[07:19:43] <eschwartz> Just drop it from the repos for now
[07:20:03] <eschwartz> it's removed from archlinux.org's 32-bit repos too even
[07:20:24] <eschwartz> add it back when it works again
[07:20:56] <eschwartz> dmd is not important enough to be holding back large parts of staging
[07:21:18] <eschwartz> a few of the others too for that matter :p
[07:21:29] <deep42thought> https://buildmaster.archlinux32.org
[07:22:02] <deep42thought> dmd, python-sympy, twisted - any more/less?
[07:22:56] <eschwartz> seems reasonable, but I'm not sure what if anything the rest are holding back
[07:23:45] <deep42thought> we will see :-)
[07:26:02] <eschwartz> most likely people are not saving their i686 hardware to do scientific math on Arch Linux
[07:26:17] <eschwartz> nor kodi
[07:27:53] <deep42thought> my wife does science on i686
[07:28:15] <deep42thought> but I'm not sure what python packages she needs
[07:30:35] <eschwartz> "the needs of the many" in this case :p
[07:32:11] <deep42thought> :-)
[07:33:10] <deep42thought> maybe other universities hand out old computers to their students, too?
[07:34:01] <eschwartz> I'm slightly surprised they get decent performance but okay
[07:34:40] <deep42thought> there are still fields, where the human in front of the computer is the bottleneck ;-)
[07:34:51] <eschwartz> haha
[07:36:22] <deep42thought> ok, I have to leave now
[07:36:37] <deep42thought> If you/anyone has any additional thoughts, just write them and I'll read them
[07:36:40] <deep42thought> later
[07:36:41] <deep42thought> cu
[07:37:15] -!- deep42thought has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
[08:39:28] -!- deep42thought has joined #archlinux-ports
[08:41:08] <deep42thought> whoops, we have now 7702 packages on the deletion-list :-/
[08:45:46] <deep42thought> at least, all staging packages are now in testing :-D

[13:52:04] <Cthulu201> If users see pkgs in AL proper they're going to assume AL32 will have it, like perl. I know we need perl for building 32-bit pkgs for ALARM.
[13:56:42] <deep42thought> it was not my intention to remove perl
[14:00:23] <deep42thought> on the other hand, we have quite a few blacklisted packages and maybe we should give some obvious way for users to see if some package is blacklisted or not
[14:06:28] <Cthulu201> Do you plan to mod PKGBUILDs to remove 64-bit specific lines to keep in i686?
[14:06:41] <deep42thought> partly
[14:06:55] <deep42thought> if it's necessary: yes - if the lines are not in effect on i686: no
[14:08:12] <deep42thought> so I guess, it'll be mostly _adding_ lines to make it (still) compile on i686
[14:11:49] <Cthulu201> For AS, we monitor repo specific to the arch that checks for pkgs upstream - pdfcrack as an example we had to recently remove.
[14:12:39] <alad> AS?
[14:12:51] <Cthulu201> Arch Strike
[14:12:55] <alad> k
[14:13:11] <deep42thought> well, we can't do that, because end of november upstream will/might drop all i686 packages
[14:13:30] <deep42thought> and accordingly we only monitor x86_64 repos :-)
[14:13:34] <Cthulu201> Does AL32 completely mirror AL-proper, with mods, or do you just pull in AL and then mod as needed?
[14:13:49] <deep42thought> what mods?
[14:14:08] <Cthulu201> Ah. Was hoping to point to AL32 github. Like mentioned before, adding/removing lines to keep on i686.
[14:14:10] <deep42thought> we have a repository of "patches" applied on top of upstream
[14:14:33] <deep42thought> https://github.com
[14:14:35] <phrik> Title: GitHub - archlinux32/packages: package customizations and pure-i686 packages (at github.com)
[14:15:19] <deep42thought> applying the mods is automated - if that's what you mean
[14:19:48] <Cthulu201> Looking at the earlier back-and-forth, and please correct me if I'm assuming wrong, but it looks like you might consider not including some pkgs? Especially some broken ones.
[14:20:31] <deep42thought> we list "unbuildable" packages in the file 'blacklist' in the 'packages'-repo
[14:20:45] <deep42thought> there are already quite some packages in there
[14:21:32] <deep42thought> I put "twisted" in there, too, but it looks like _everything_ depends on twisted, so everything got blacklisted
[14:25:03] <Cthulu201> We use plugbuild, which puts things in a hold status if there are depends issues. So I'm familiar with that issue. :)
[14:26:25] <Cthulu201> We have an i686 user-base, and I'm looking past November. If there are deps in x86_64 but not i686 then we'll (AS) have to see what we can do to keep that supported.
[14:27:36] <deep42thought> just use archlinux32 for i686 and if there is a dependency issue either remove the unneeded dependency or fix the build for i686 via a patch in archlinux32's packages repository
[14:28:39] <deep42thought> currently, we do not delete (unbuildable) packages, we just remove their build-orders and the build-orders of all dependent packages
[14:28:53] <deep42thought> so you should be fine, you will just not receive any updates
[14:29:02] <deep42thought> ... or new packages
