[14:59:59] <tyzoid> hey deep42thought: I figured out why the API was showing the old value for the version of ffmpeg
[15:00:26] <tyzoid> Apparantly the VM was shut down in a way that left the db.lock file lying around, and it couldn't update it's package databases

[17:38:18] <CalimeroTeknik> I remember people saying that arch build recipes are very often not even working, and we still have binaries in the repos
[17:38:50] <CalimeroTeknik> thankfully gentoo often fixes that
[17:54:01] <Alina-malina> where can i get the firmware mod-kit for my arch?
[18:00:57] -!- abaumann has joined #archlinux-ports
[18:01:16] <abaumann> Alina-malina: Did you look in the AUR? See https://aur.archlinux.org
[18:01:17] <phrik> Title: AUR (en) - firmware-mod-kit (at aur.archlinux.org)
[18:01:45] <Alina-malina> oh please tell me abaumann is it the same as this? https://www.archlinux.org
[18:01:45] <phrik> Title: Arch Linux - squashfs-tools 4.3-4 (x86_64) (at www.archlinux.org)
[18:01:49] <Alina-malina> i am a little confused
[18:01:59] <Alina-malina> or diff tools?
[18:02:10] <Alina-malina> i am reading some stuff and i cant understand if it is same oer not
[18:02:29] <abaumann> squashfs is a special filesystem (for initramdisks), squashfs-tool is a tool to modify those images.
[18:02:39] <abaumann> has nothing to do with firmware extraction. :-)
[18:03:04] <abaumann> aha.
[18:03:06] <Alina-malina> ok so i install this thing: pacman -S squashfs-tools and it extracts what i wanted to
[18:03:21] <Alina-malina> its just for extracting as far as i understand
[18:03:22] <abaumann> mod-kit extracts firware, which is squashfs or cramfs or something similar.
[18:03:25] <abaumann> yes.
[18:03:32] <abaumann> and the tools are for getting to the files.
[18:03:52] <Alina-malina> hmmm
[18:03:55] <abaumann> so, as I understand, you would use mod-kit to get the firmware, then use squashfs or something similar to get access to the files on the image.
[18:04:16] <Alina-malina> i extract the .sqfs with binwalk already
[18:04:20] <Alina-malina> but i am not sure why that mod-kit for
[18:04:27] <Alina-malina> maybe it does the same as binwalk -e
[18:07:28] -!- |ast| has joined #archlinux-ports
[18:07:41] <abaumann> * abaumann: shrugs, never used those tools (binwalk, firmware-mod-kit)..
[18:07:58] <Alina-malina> oh hehe okie anyways thanks for pointing out on mod-kit
[18:08:01] <Alina-malina> i will install it now:)
[18:08:08] <Alina-malina> oh and what about qemu?
[18:08:15] <abaumann> what about that?
[18:08:24] <Alina-malina> lol please tell me what is the qemu pack to install, will it be ok on my 32bit system?
[18:08:54] <abaumann> qemu.
[18:08:55] <abaumann> :-)
[18:09:22] <Alina-malina> ah hehe okie, i thought its has some other weird package name :) thanks for your time
[18:09:24] <abaumann> yes. I'm using it myself. At least 32-bit Intel on 32-bit Intel runs fine.
[18:09:31] <abaumann> np
[18:10:00] <Alina-malina> arch is super, i love it, anything i tried yet works like buldozer :D
[18:10:50] <abaumann> happy to hear that. :-)

[18:48:32] <eschwartz[m]> CalimeroTeknik: not sure where you are going with that
[18:48:52] <CalimeroTeknik> this project does the arch linux distro a lot of good
[18:50:29] <CalimeroTeknik> good thing is it might not even be too hard as the gentoo bugtracker often already has the solution somewhere
[18:54:05] <CalimeroTeknik> at some point I was running an i586 port of archlinux
[18:56:03] <CalimeroTeknik> I've also been experimenting with ebuilds instead of PKGBUILDs for a less abrupt change in management between supported and unsupported packages
[19:23:22] <eschwartz[m]> Oh, yeah this is basically CI for Arch. :-D
[19:26:19] <buildmaster> deep42thought: my database is dirty again ...
